5 benefits of body scrubbers

Alright, men.

For a while now we’ve been talking about how a bar of soap, some water, and a straight razor just doesn’t cut it when it comes to overall male grooming and hygiene and it’s time to talk about body scrubbers.

Yes, that’s right, men can (and should) add this awesome little piece to their shower routine. It’s all about being well-rounded. Male hygiene is a multi-faceted beast and it’s our job to help educate the masses, so you’re welcome.

To get started, some of you might be asking yourself, what the hell is a body scrubber

We know the English language is crazy, guys, but a body scrubber is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a scrubber. For your body.

It’s usually a silicone-based doohickey that fits in the palm of your hand, then you squirt some body wash into it, and then you scrubby-dub-dub your body. That’s the gist of it. It’s more efficient than your hand or more sanitary than a washcloth that’s for sure.

Simply put, body scrubbers are awesome and our MANSCAPED™ team has come up with five benefits of body scrubbers to pique your interest (and not only because we're launching our very own The Body Buffer):

1. Better exfoliation

It’s time for a new vocabulary word, our friends: exfoliation.

Exfoliation is basically a part of your washing routine that involves a scrubber to remove the dead skin cells that build up on your body. Back in the Roman era sand mixed with oil and then rubbed all over someone’s body did the trick and you might have heard about loofahs and sea sponges being used in the shower.

We’re personally a fan of the silicon-based body scrubbers (thank you, technology), but the point is, exfoliation is a process of adding something to your shower routine that adds a little abrasion. This abrasion helps break up things on your skin like dead skin cells that haven’t shed on their own and the result is magical.

Yes, it’s truly magical to the point that your skin will immediately look and feel different. According to the Cleveland Clinic, “[t]he epidermis continually makes new skin cells. These new cells replace the approximately 40,000 old skin cells that your body sheds every day. You have new skin every 30 days.” That’s a lot of old skin just chillin’ on your body and exfoliation gets rid of all that.

2. Better absorption of body lotions

The exfoliation process not only removes dead skin cells, but it actually opens up your pores. This is awesome for a few reasons:

  1. It prevents clogged pores which are caused by things like dirt, grime, and oil getting trapped which then leads to pimples and breakouts.
  2. It enhances the skin's ability to absorb moisturizers.

Gents, remember that moisturizing is a critical piece to overall male hygiene and grooming best practices, so please, please, please use lotion on your body after your shower.

MANSCAPED™ has an amazing UltraPremium™ Body Spray to make this super simple for you. It’s a spray-on moisturizer that is lightweight, quick-drying, and non-greasy. Take a shower, soap, wash, exfoliate, do whatever else you need to do in there, then get out, dry off, and spray away.

Our spray-on hydration product includes natural ingredients like Red Algae from the Pacific Ocean and Hyaluronic Acid which are meant to lock in moisture. This will keep your skin looking fresh and healthy AND it smells real, real good.

3. Anti-aging benefits

Getting older gives us great life experiences, but that doesn’t mean we want to look older if we don’t have to. Exfoliation actually helps make your skin look younger because it has a direct connection to collagen production.

Collagen is a natural protein in your body and it’s produced by your body ongoing, but something like exfoliation can actually help stimulate its creation. Things like wrinkles and lines on your skin are reduced when skin is more elastic and that’s exactly what collagen helps with. Collagen also contributes to your skin’s overall strength, healthiness, and structure which are all positive things.

We know you Millennials out there are all rockin’ the baby faces already, but for the rest of us, exfoliation might be the key to the Fountain of Youth.

4. Better circulation

Exfoliation involves scrubbing and our skin kind of is nerve central. Our skin is full of sensory nerves and certain areas like our fingertips, lips, etc. have even more nerve endings. As Science World reminds us, “[t]he sense of touch is located throughout the body, in your largest organ, the skin.”

So, all of this scrubbing activates all of our skin nerves, and when that happens others things get stimulated, like blood flow.

Blood flow is kind of necessary for the proper function of any part of our body, but when it’s concentrated due to overstimulation, amazing things happen. For our skin, increased blood flow makes it look brighter and more colorful AKA that rosy glow.

Increased blood flow also jump-starts the production of things like collagen that we discussed above. Blood flow moves toxins around and helps flush them from our bodies and it contributes to healing and overall immunity as well.

5. Better cleansing and it feels good!

Because this is kind of the point of taking a shower.

In all seriousness though, exfoliation is truly the cherry on top when it comes to ensuring a holistic body cleaning experience. It gets you clean. Like really clean. Like “a microscope zooming in on your skin and all you would see is brand new skin cells” clean.

Plus, exfoliation does not add that much more time to your shower. In our opinion, taking a few more minutes to add exfoliation is well worth the benefits we’ve been listing out for you.

Just get that shower water nice and warm, get all naked, hop in, rinse off, soap up, and then grab your body scrubber. Add a little UltraPremium™ Body Wash to your scrubber for some extra lubrication and scrub clockwise (or counterclockwise because it really doesn’t matter). Scrub your face, your chest, your arms, your butt—just all the surface area, men.

Then rinse, turn off the water, dry, moisturize, and complete your bathroom routine.

Note: We recommend exfoliating two to three times a week, so it’s not even necessary every shower time.

There you have it. Five reasons right there.

Buy The Body Buffer, use it, and reap the benefits.

Your skin will thank you.
